Biography

Christopher Emond’s heart-bearing approach to experimental music has spilled over nearly a decade of homespun, eclectic projects under various band arrangements and pseudonyms (See also: Alain C. Montgomery, Ray Walks Down, etc). First recording songs onto the memory banks of his family’s digital piano in middle school, Emond later emerged as a fixture in Brooklyn’s DIYs following the release of 2025’s acclaimed Music from Clocks, his debut LP under his own name. Building a reputation as both a magnetizing acoustic singer-songwriter and electronic composer, as well as for collaborations with Quiet Light, ideasforconversations, and more, Emond found co-signs from electronica legend Dntel & The Postal Service’s Jimmy Tamborello amidst growing critical reception.

Perfectly Imperfect named Music from Clocks to their Best of 2025 list, lauding, “Probably the album I sent around the most this year […] When I put on Music From Clocks for the first time, taking the bus to work back in August, it felt just as immediate and significant (funny enough, Christopher did a beautiful cover of Broken Social Scene’s “Almost Crimes” with Quiet Light). I distinctly remember the end of the first track, “Halloween,” as it jolts from something understated and pretty into a precipitous swell. It feels like a flex, like he’s saying, bet you weren’t expecting this. Same goes for the kickass electronic interludes throughout the record. “Kino” folktronica.” ***Fire Talk’s Music We Like 2026: “My very own Nuclear Missle.”*** ***Captured Tracks Hit Play 2026: “Minor League Debut (feat. Quiet Light)”*** ***Spotify’s Fresh Finds Folk***

Born in New York and raised in San Jose, California, Emond had already released two projects on Bandcamp and founded his Orange Label Records imprint by the time he enrolled in college, aged 18. Building a budding scene around his off kilter electronic and folk influences, Emond championed local acts by directing and shooting music videos. In New York, he began to establish himself as a live force, Recent performances alongside Cooper B. Handy, Quiet Light, ideasforconversations, Holidays in United States, Worldpeace DMT, Dan English, Maiya Blaney, Trinity Ace, Oldstar, Superfan and more, a sold-out performance at Bowery Ballroom. Music from Clocks follows the self release of his critical acclaimed debut EP ‘Oh yea! Dance, boogeyman!’ (Supported by Spotify’s Anti Pop, Fresh Finds Folk & Fresh Finds Indie) and a compilation tape of assorted demos from 2019-2023, aptly titled 'Mismatches, scores and demos 2019-2023'.

His living room CD imprint Crane Operator, on the independent Orange Label Records, has been an early home of many rising collaborators and friends, including the first discs from Quiet Light, ideasforconversations, Zachary Mezzo, Alana Markel, Chris Olsen and more, also housing his laundry list of side projects: Alain C. Montgomery, Ray Walks Down (with Connor O’Doughtery of Holidays in United States), among others.

FASHIONABLY EARLY

Emond creates an effortlessly nostalgic soundscape with a profusion of fuzzy synth motifs that ring powerfully through the chorus and verses. Additionally, his vocals encapsulate an existential feeling and add to the ethereal atmosphere built around himself. As a whole, “Harmony” tugs at the heartstrings of those who hold psychedelia and late 2000s indie/alternative rock near and dear. […] Chris Emond has an abundance to show for himself in the creative world, and we’re waiting eagerly for his next move.

His recent follow-up, Panthers Juno, is an album admittedly rooted in nostalgia. […] There’s a postmodern feel to the work, thanks to what Emond describes as “weathering”; Sometimes the songs themselves break down, derailed by Emond’s own frustration or insecurity getting in the way of a take. We hear glimpses of conversations with friends about how listeners will perceive parts of the work; such intrusions included to add a more immersive feel. As he continues to plot, the repurposed Western Appliance sign on his label’s shirts stands as a beacon to Emond, pushing him to be hopeful about just what lies in his, and his label’s future. “I want to have us be the trigger to creating something that puts San Jose on the map,” he says.

“In August of this year, [Chris] released his debut album: Panthers Juno. His work is the embodiment of everything the label represents, visually: with an abundance of film photography and camcorder videos, overlaid with doodles; sonically: through its freedom of genre non-conformity. It’s truly eclectic, with influences coming from all over the place — from electronic music to household noises and old voice recordings to psychedelia and indie rap to the sound of old records. “It’s kind of a narrative of his life in San Jose and what it’s like to be a teenager in suburbia. Just like falling in love and falling out of love and friendships and relationships and creative endeavors… it captures all of that.”’ -Dasha Balshova

NU SOUND ONLINE MAGAZINE

“San Jose Singer-Songwriter and Producer Chris Emond is new, electric, and drawing with a sound grounded in evident influences from late 00s indie/ psychedelia. A virtually unknown artist we are hopping on the bandwagon for early in anticipation of his debut record."
